 Author

Kerry Germain lives, writes, and publishes on the North Shore of O`ahu. Her work reflects her life resulting in one of the few authors who write realistic fiction for children here in Hawaii. She combines picture book format with easy reader text, giving children the beauty of a picture book, along with the confidence of knowing they can read it. She is a member of the Hawaii Book Publisher Association: http://www.hawaiipublishers.org

The artist Keoni Montes brilliantly brought Surf's Up For Kimo and Kimo's Summer Vacation to life after hours of thought and discussion.  Using photographs as a guide, he painted each of the oil on canvas illustrations with the children in mind. He is a master at capturing the unique life and color on the island. Germain was fortunate to have seen his work at the Haleiwa Arts Festival where their working partnership began.

When Feng Feng Hutchins was a child in Malaysia, the best part of her birthdays was watching her mother make long life noodle soup for her. She brought those fond memories with her when she came to America many years ago. Now while cooking noodles for her own children in Hawaii, she adds fresh ingredients from the island to make up this delicious saimin. She enjoys food so nearly all her writing includes cooking and eating. This is her first children's picture book.

Adriano F. Abatayo was born and raised in Nanakuli, Hawaii. He began his artistic talents at the ripe age of 5 - drawing animals and people. Oftentimes being caught daydreaming in class, it was considered as having 'a lack of attention'. As an adult freelance artist he has won many praises for his work, which have been received by the likes of Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand and President Bill Clinton. In October 2009, one of his most treasured pieces - a beautiful portrait of Barbra Streisand - was sold at her auction with critical praise. Though he considers California as his home, Hawaii will always remain a special part of his life.
